Blackberry Storm Vs. iPhone 3G

Blackberry Storm Vs. iPhone 3G

It’s now available to buy, so let’s take a look at the fabulous new Blackberry Storm, and ask the question: is it really the best email-centric mobile phone ever made?

Fruit-based fact-file – the history of Blackberry mobile phones

Blackberry mobile phones have been available for many years, now, and right from the very start of their of their existence, they’ve been known for one feature above all others: email. The name Blackberry has become synonymous for instant email, wherever you are, right from the early days of their little, monochrome-screened devices that weren’t actually very good as mobile phones, and weren’t actually that appealing. However, since then, it’s fair to say that Blackberrys have taken off in a big, big way. It’s also fair to say they’ve evolved from pure email devices into proper, full-blooded smartphones. Their portfolio’s now filled with top-end mobile phones like the Blackberry Bold, the Blackberry Pearl…

…and the phone we’re here to look at today: the most advanced Blackberry ever made, the stunning Blackberry Storm.

Blackberry Storm – a touch of genius

There’s one glaringly obvious thing about the Blackberry Storm, and that’s the complete lack of a physical keyboard. That should give the game away, that the Blackberry Storm has a touchscreen; in fact, it’s the first of the wealth of mobile phones to come from Blackberry to ever have a touchscreen. Ah, but, it doesn’t just stop at the touchscreen, because it’s a special one. You see, the Blackberry Storm has a screen that can be pressed down into the body of the mobile phone, with a satisfying clicky action. In essence, it’s designed to feel like you’re pressing a real, physical button, and believe me, when you’re typing out an email using the virtual keyboard on the Blackberry Storm, that kind of physical motion and click is absolutely invaluable. No other touchscreen mobile phones can touch (pun ever so slightly intended) the Blackberry Storm, when it comes to tactile feedback.

The Perfect Storm?

The question, though, is whether the Blackberry Storm is the perfect email device, and whether it can be the perfect smartphone. It certainly has a massive list of features, beginning with the touchscreen, and taking in such varied things as a 3 megapixel camera, and superb video playback, meaning you have your very own pocket entertainment system, with the Blackberry Storm. And, of course, with HSDPA internet access and WiFi, as well as a massive screen, the Blackberry Storm (or Blackberry Storm 9500, to give it its full name) really is one of the better internet mobile phones out there. So for email and internet access, as well as for entertainment, it really is brilliant. But… there are a couple of flaws, and things to consider. First, the software interface on the Blackberry Storm has some, well, let’s call them idiosyncrasies, and it can be a bit finicky at times. Also, your may find it disconcerting have a screen that moves. It’s a brilliant, brilliant feature, and it will benefit you no end, but the first time you feel it moving and wiggling, the screen on the Blackberry Storm IS going to freak you out. If you can get past its relatively minor flaws, though, you’ll that the Blackberry Storm is one heck of a good mobile phones, and one that I really can’t recommend enough!

Listen. The BB storm IS a good phone. The only bad thing about the phone is that it freezes a lot and that i doesn’t have wi-fi…Iphone doesn’t have problems like this.

2

That was helpful, answered a lot of my questions but can’t make my mind up. I also have the Nokia N97 in mind.
With the storm, it didn’t feel like a touch screen anymore, literally needed to “press”on the screen and i didn’t like that it lacks the flickering thing. Everyone says the iPhone is safer which makes the situation more tricky.

Both the blackberry storm and iPhone have glass screens. If the iPhone was on Verizon it may be better but the fact is ATT sucks. the iPhone has better media and a much nicer media player, but the Storm blows away the iphone when it comes to email, secuirty features.

4

Blackberry Storm touchscreen is actually plastic. IPhone touchscreen is glass.

Depends on what features matter to you the most. BlackBerry is a MUCH better phone for email. iPhone has a lot of really cool apps for internet stuff.

I've had both a BlackBerry (not the Storm) and an iPhone. Negatives on the iPhone… then inability to copy and paste, poor email application (as compared to a BB), few option keys on any page (hard to explain but it's a problem), sucky keyboard. Those are my biggest gripes. The only thing keeping me from switching to a Storm is that I don't want to switch to Verizon (they don't have a store within 300 miles of me).

aboalatrak, i just bought a new iphone 3G S. i say it’s bettter then the blackberry storm. the iphone is faster, and i love the video.

I prefer the iPhone; however, both phones have their distinct advantages.

The Storm is like any other blackberry; it's primary purpose is for enterprise users and thus the storm has all the benefits of a regular blackberry. The phone has the same awesome features as any other blackberry. In addition, the Storm gives the user a little bit of "fun" with the touch screen. The primary disadvantage the storm has for an enterprise user is that it does not have a full "QWERTY" keyboard.

The iPhone is an awesome phone for the home user. It has some features that might attract corporate/enterprise users; however, the main attraction of the iPhone is the app store. For a home/casual user the iPhone is significantly better than the Storm.

Also, note that the Storm has a unique click-touch technology when using its keyboard. Some people love it. Personally, I don't think it is all that great. I use a blackberry with a full keyboard for work and would not trade it in for a storm or iPhone. I use an iPhone at home and love it.

10

they should call it the blackberry shit storm

İdiots who are talking about touch screen of BB Storm.
BB do it like this for preventing wrong touches!
BTW you can’t do anything wrong with storm screen.

Look at carefully at main screen.

İphone sucks!!!

I am waiting Storm 2 with wifi.

12

ive heard that the storm is rather slow and clunky

13

it depends what you want it for
if you just want a fun phone get the iphone 3g
if you need somehting a little bit more business oriented then get the storm

14

i have to say that the iphone is for people who want a touch screen phone just for having a touch screen phone. it's for playing. the blackberry storm is a more professional version of the iphone. it's more for working. they are basically the same phone except for the blackberry storm's screen clicks (which is awesome) and it doesn't have that crazy auto correct like the iphone.

15

man i want the iphone SOOO bad, but i have Verizon, i think im getting the storm

16

I love the g1 .. it has everything and its very easy to use….

17

depends on what your looking for in a phone. i say the storm is a competitor to the iPhone but wont be the killer of it. iPhone is aimed at everyday people while the blackberries are aimed at corporations and people who need to be in touch via email and stuff.

i havent personally touched, used or seen the storm in person but i have the bold and it certainly replaced my iPhone 3G.. never looked back at the thing since.. the iPhone is just too buggy for my taste..

iphones battery last like 20 minutes.
