Cellphones Can Save Your Life
By
Originally designed for keeping in touch, today’s cellphones are nifty feature rich communication devices that not only come equipped with an incredible array of functions to increase your productivity and entertainment experiences but also with the ability to save your life. Hence, in this article we examine ways in which the modern cellphone can be used as a survival tool.
Bullet Protection
The metal casing found in today’s cellphones is not only great for keeping away scratches, but can also be used to deflect bullets. Take the case of Darren Prior, a jewelry attendant who credited his cellphone for saving his life during a botched robbery.
Flash Light
The bright display screen found in today’s cellphones not only makes it easy to use the device in the dark but also allows the cellphone to be used as a portable torch, like in the case of the two stranded hikers who had used their cellphone display screens as glow sticks to direct rescue helicopters to their location.
Personal Surveillance System
Many cellphones now come equipped with a camera which are not only good for snapping personal pictures but can also be used as a personal surveillance device to help protect you from unforeseen incidents, such as a pervert on the subway, a robbery suspect and a would be kidnapper.
Silent Alarm
Apart from keeping in touch, the text messaging ability is a great feature that is not only simple to use but also discrete. This is especially useful if you need to send out a silent alarm, like in the case of a kidnapped boy who secretly text messaged his parents.
Location Finder
Many new cellphones come with a built in GPS. Not only does this technology allow parents to spy on their kids but can also be used a GPS system to find your exact location. Like in the case of the standard couple whose cellphone GPS capabilities enabled Emergency 911 operators to relay their location to on ground rescuers.

Hahahahaha. This is too funny. No idea where it’s from; my father e-mailed it to me.

Wow, no one has answered this. When people get on an on-ramp, either they are calling people to say that they're coming home or they're calling people to say when they're arriving at the meeting or even calling mistresses and paramours to arrange for rendezvous.

There are either grammar or spelling errors in nearly every sentence of the first paragraph. I didn't bother to read the remainder of the text.

When you grow up you are going to be one fine salesperson!
You made good points, listed your benefits, and overcame common objections.
You make a good case. (and I'm a tough one to convince! I started reading this thinking, WHY does a 12 year old need a cell phone?)
HOWEVER, lose the one about gangs, etc. Why bring up a negative?
If your parents say "We never needed cell phones" remind them that times have changed:
1-as you said before, there are fewer public phones available, and they don't always work, and your parents can't call you back on a public phone
2-EVERYONE's schedule is busier and faster now than in the past–even your parents'! (It's a good bet they are busier than their parents were!) With things changing so fast, it is important to stay in touch.
3-Other generations survived without other things, too, such as computers, TVs, refrigeration, washing machines, cars, credit cards and ready-made clothing. That doesn't mean we have to live that way now.
you convinced me!
good luck!
PS: Make sure you keep to your promises and your end of the bargain! Be responsible!
Perhaps agree to some rules, and agree to surrender the phone if you break those rules.

The first one works in some areas of the world.
The second is FAKE. There's no way a cell phone can transmit and reproduce an RF signal from an alarm transmitter. (http://www.snopes.com/autos/techno/keyless.asp , http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/phonelocks.html )
The third only works with some phones, but is not exactly unleashing hidden battery power.
The fourth works on most phones to get your IMEI number, but cell phone carriers already have it in their system.
The fifth is true.
