Motorola E8 Rokr Review
By
In the tradition of other area-focused mobile phones, the Motorola E8 ROKR seems to definitely be geared more towards music. Most mobile phone areas already have heavy competition, and musical inclined ones are no different. Thus, the Motorola E8 ROKR had to distinguish itself from its competitors, and it certainly managed to do so. In fact, it is so different in nature that most can’t but stop to notice it.
Features of the Motorola E8 ROKR
Crowning all the features that the E8 ROKR offers is its morphing ability. Not only does it affect every aspect of the phone, but it is both visible and intriguing at the same time, bound to perk even the most hardened and sceptical of mobile phone users. For starters, it would be impossible not to notice that, when the Motorola E8 ROKR is first picked up, it has no visible keypad. Instead, where the keypad should be are a series of raised dots that are arranged in 3 parallel columns, sort of like how a keypad should be.
Essentially, this is the morphing keypad of the E8 ROKR. When active in calling mode, the keypad lights up with the customary numbers, whereas, when in music player mode, it only displays music controls. Similarly, in camera mode all those controls related to the camera and galleries come into play. Based on the function, different sets of keys appear and disappear, making for some ease of use.
All the keys themselves use subtle vibrations at the location of the key to let the user know when they have been pressed. Furthermore, the keys feel as though they are being ‘pushed in’ or ‘depressed’ which adds to the general feel, although in truth the keys do not move at all. This localised hepatic feedback does take some getting used to.
Also new to the Motorola E8 ROKR is the FastScroll navigation wheel. Any iPod user would recognise it, however it is not a full circle, not really a semi circle, and more strongly resembles a horseshoe. That said, it does pretty much the same thing as one would expect it to, but the absence of a section of the circle sometimes gets in the way a little. For any who find it all too bizarre, there is the more standard four-way directional pad for navigation as well.
Underneath the gloss, the Motorola E8 ROKR offers the usual sort of thing. A 2 megapixel camera produces decent images, a media player that performs quite well especially with the easy-to-use morphed buttons, microSD compatibility for extra storage, 2 GB internal storage, FM radio, and both Bluetooth and USB ready.
Bottom line, the Motorola E8 ROKR is one of those mobile phone deals that is really pushing at the forefront of the interactive interface technology. Such wild changes may not be for everyone, but it is bound to attract any who likes to have at their disposal the very latest piece of equipment that visibly is different from its competitors. Beneath the exterior lies a pretty solid mobile phone, all in all, and the combination of both solid features and futuristic exterior seems to fit well.

The virginmobile is better than net10 if you don’t use the phone too often. You pay .25 per min. with virgin,(after 2 min. of call per day you pay only .10 per min. that day.)but $20 prepaid card will make your phone activated for 3months. In other words, having virginmobile will cost you just $7 per mo. with the net10 the cheapest deal will give you $15 for one month. I have Virginmobile and use it very random and have cumulated about $100 over the months since I can roll over unused airtime

PROS:
GREAT music player
FM Radio
2.0 Mega pixel camera
Great Sound
The screen doesn't leave fingerprints
Cool Design
ModeShift (When you use music, the keypad corresponds to the music e.g. Play/Pause, Skip)
Headset jack (Normal iPod issued, not the ones the phone company wants you to buy)
CONS
Cases hard to find
Keypad weird sometimes
That's all I could come up with. I would buy it if I were you.

The Rokr E8 would be a better phone when compared BUT a phone which would be much better is the Nokia N82 black or the N78.

None. Motorola and Nokia sucks. Get a Sony Ericsson phone, like the K810i or W580i, you will be happy with it.

Indeed. It’s actually 20¢ a minute unless you get a monthly plan. Texts are a ridiculous 15¢ each to send or receive. Yeah, no. Seems they really want you to get the plans and message packs and if I wanted that I’d get a contract with a regular carrier.
