if it buzzes when it downloads its because the network you are running off of, either 2g/edge, or 3g is causing interference, you might try using wifi as you download, so the cell signal doesn't interfere.

Wow, The world is becoming a scary place when a 10 year old has an iphone….your friend doesn't need an iphone, if his parents are worried about his safety, they should have given his a GPS system to put in his backpack or something, just crazy these kisd now a days.

Since you mentioned Cingular, I'm assuming you need a GSM phone, not a CDMA phone. FYI – GSM phones use SIM cards; CDMA don't have these phones; their programmed by PC's.
I've been a fan of the Sony Ericsson line. Sony Ericsson has the walkman line(i.e. w810i) which has great megapixel cameras. These are the two I recommend(beware, they can be pricey.)Plus both can be found at Cingular.
Sony Ericsson W710i
The good: The Sony Ericsson W710i has an attractive, user-friendly design and good call quality. It comes with Bluetooth, a speakerphone, a 2-megapixel camera, and a Walkman digital music player.
The bad: The Sony Ericsson W710i has a disappointing external display and some flimsy parts, and its camera lacks a few extras. Also, music player navigation was a bit sluggish.
Sony Ericsson K750i
The good: Gorgeous display; compact design; 2-megapixel camera; fully enabled Bluetooth with PC remote control; infrared port; 64MB Memory Stick Duo card; MP3 player and FM radio; speakerphone; world phone.
The bad: Cramped, hard-to-press keys; feels a bit heavy for its size.

Yes, there are SDK's for many other phones than the iphone. Any phone that has mobile windows OS have an SDK, as well as phones that run on the symbian os.
As far as the buzzing, it may be from devices in your home, or it could be related to a problem with your handset. I am an ATT/Cingular customer and I am very happy with sound quality

It appears it is just for Sprint. If this really does go through with other companies, you can except to have phone prices go up to like $600+ and also phone plans to rise too. We'll see what happens from this.

Iphone 3g Or iphone 3gS. Apple Iphone is a MUCH better phone. You have 1000's of choice for custom apps that you can download on the iphone. Jailbreaking the iphone opens new doors to more apps that transform your phone into a much more personal device rather than just a phone. The texting is much better on the iphone cos it keeps correcting your mistakes while your typing, and also keeps adding new words as you type to its dictionary making it a superb means for texting or emailing. The new iphone has MMS and Video Camera now (these two were actually available on the previous versions if you jailbreak the phone). The best part about the iphone is that if you think you are missing some features from the phone, you can easily download an app that adds the feature.
